    Description

Sterling Silver Medal For Best Bantam Essex Agricultural Society Topsfield Fair 1935. Hallmarked: WHH - William Hair Hasseler; Birmingham - Anchor; Sterling Silver - Lion; Year - [the letter] "L". As is the case with silver hallmarks, the year the item is certified as Sterling does not necessiarly coincide with the year the item was issued. In this case, the year the medal was certified Sterling was not the year the medal was given - 1935. It appears, from the date letter "L",  the medal was certified sterling during the 19th century' and a stock of unengraved medals was kept by the Essex Agricultural Society for use in future fairs and were engraved as needed.
In this case the medal was engraved in 1935 and given as the silver Medal for the best Bantam (Chicken?) (Rooster?).
1.75" Diameter or 44.5 MM. 33 Grams or 1.16404 Ounces.
